UNIVERSITIES 'AND RESEARCH: A CURE THAT DO NOT KILL THE PATIENT
The financial measures that Berlusconi's government is expected to approve, among other things, heavy and indiscriminate cuts to university and public research. These cuts come after years of steady decline in funding, in the absence of a system, serious and internationally recognized research evaluation and education.
The university and research in Italy have no doubt need a cure, but does not kill the patient! For a real improvement are effective measures that introduce a rigorous and transparent evaluation system, in order to hit areas of unproductive and nepotism. Without this, the indiscriminate cutting of the Berlusconi government will penalize only the active and vital components of universities and research centers, those who work and produce for years, despite a thousand difficulties. If the measures are implemented, it will have devastating effects for the development of culture and technology from around the country.
