The measures of the Berlusconi government for Universities and Research: a "cure" that will kill the patient
UNIVERSITIES 'AND RESEARCH: A CURE THAT DO NOT KILL THE PATIENT
The financial measures that Berlusconi's government is expected to approve, among other things, heavy and indiscriminate cuts to university and public research. These cuts come after years of steady decline in funding, in the absence of a system, serious and internationally recognized research evaluation and education.
The university and research in Italy have no doubt need a cure, but does not kill the patient! For a real improvement are effective measures that introduce a rigorous and transparent evaluation system, in order to hit areas of unproductive and nepotism. Without this, the indiscriminate cutting of the Berlusconi government will penalize only the active and vital components of universities and research centers, those who work and produce for years, despite a thousand difficulties. If the measures are implemented, it will have devastating effects for the development of culture and technology from around the country.

Alison Abbott Nature comments on the sad moment of universities and public research, hacked to pieces by the Berlusconi government cuts
This is without doubt the worst moment ever crossed by universities and research in Italy, even if the journal Nature is dealing. Together with other colleagues we have sent comments to the journalist Alison Abbott, who wrote a nice piece about it (http://www.nature.com/news/2010/300610/full/466016b.html). Whoever wants to can participate.

How Much Would You Pay For A Personalized Gift
The Berlusconi government wants to cut the thirteenth of researchers and academics
Having already frozen shots salary of university teachers and researchers, the Berlusconi government now threatens to cut even the thirteenth. The measure also applies to police officers, police, judges, diplomats and teachers. It is nice to think of the last of a majority now in disarray.
It must be said that schools, universities and public research have always been the scapegoats for this and other governments. In fact, the indiscriminate cutting of Tremonti & co. have already brought to its knees these key areas for growth and cultural development of a civilized country, but now the bottom.
Rather than devote himself to "butcher" because Tremonti does not affect the revenues and privileges of the many castes in this country? To begin with, could halve the rich salaries and pensions of gold that are generously given to ministers and parliamentarians, reducing the many benefits of the highest paid politicians in the western world. It would be a nice gesture and a good economy.
