Sign the appeal sent by the university lecturers to the Prime Minister.
ASK THE APOLOGY OF THE PRIME
The Prime Minister, Hon. Silvio Berlusconi, has again seriously insulting expressions directed against the Italian university and against its teaching staff. The university, in the opinion expressed by Mr. Berlusconi, was merely "a social buffer" and a hotbed of intrigue nepotism. Unfortunately, such expressions are not new, and for many months we have heard them say with arrogance, as part of a sordid smear campaign condotta dall'attuale Esecutivo contro il sistema scolastico e universitario, con l'ausilio di media compiacenti.
Nessuno di noi discute la possibilità di migliorare le prestazioni del sistema universitario italiano sul piano dell'insegnamento e della ricerca, di utilizzare più resources efficiently and to improve the mechanisms of defective recruitment of teachers, however, prepared by Parliament and the government. However, strongly reject a smear campaign full of vulgar and unfounded. Despite the well-known inadequacy of funds available, which puts us among the last among industrialized countries, we talk about is the consideration enjoyed by the Italian research in comparison with other European countries and beyond, both the quality of graduates in the internationally established our universities. For years many of us condemn the shortcomings of our university system, calling for appropriate measures of reform and commitment to make every effort to ensure the functionality of the universities. In any case, We must point out to Mr. Berlusconi that the international reputation of the scholars and the Italian research facilities, especially public ones - in terms of scientific quality and that of morality - is somewhat higher than that enjoyed by the political system and the business system.
therefore expect an apology, Mr. Prime Minister.
